Temptation Island is hardly the first insane-sounding show centered around dating on TV and not even the first version of Temptation Island , but it might just be the most cruel and therefore entertaining. Join us as we take a walk through some of TV’s other wild TV dating concepts—minus The Bachelor, because in comparison, one person dating 30 other people and slowly eliminating them is practically a normal way to date at this point.
Temptation Island might be the most twisted of them all, just because its stars are not even single. The show takes four established couples, splits them up into guys and girls, then puts the girls in a house full of single guys and the guys in a house full of single girls.

The objective of the show is for a single man to obtain a date with one of thirty single women. The women stand on stage underneath thirty white lights, each with a button in front of them. A single man is then brought on stage and tries to persuade the women to agree to a date in a series of rounds, playing a pre-recorded video discussing his background, displaying a skill such as dancing or playing a musical instrument , or playing another video in which the man’s friends or family reveal more about his virtues and philosophy.
At any point during the rounds, the women can press the button in front of them to turn off their light if they do not believe a date with this man would be constructive to their well-being and if this occurs, their area of the stage will turn red. If, at the end of three rounds, there are lights still left on, the bachelor will turn off all but two remaining lights.
He will then have a chance to ask one question to the last two women, before choosing which woman he wants to go on the date with by turning off one more light. Alternatively, if the man had been left with two lights at the end of round 3, he will just ask his question to the two remaining women but if there is only one light left at the end of round 3, he will go on the date with that girl without asking her his question.

‘Love on the Spectrum’ is one of the most refreshing and well-made shows Australia has seen in a long time.
What these shows have forgotten is that, actually, it can be incredibly entertaining watching people try to find love in a way that is not demeaning, patronising, exploitative or coercive. That humans are inherently fascinating because no two are the same. A show that understands this and succeeds in demonstrating the power of having real people on reality TV is Love on the Spectrum. And check out what zodiac sign is the most successful on dating apps. The four-part series from ABC is part dating show, part documentary tracing the journey of nine people with an autism spectrum disorder as they look for love, or are in love.
For a show about people who have been characterised as unable to communicate or express intimacy, it arouses the kind of emotions that you usually associate with going on a first date yourself: excitement, nervousness and delicious anticipation. Michael waits for his date to arrive. Love on the Spectrum avoids this because it roots the drama in realism, these are real people with a real desire to find love, or in the case of Ruth and Thomas, maintain their relationship.
As relationship expert, Jodi Rodgers, explains in the first episode, people who are on the autism spectrum have the same desires for romance and intimacy as the rest of us, they just have a little bit more difficulty in finding their way there.
